Formidable young barrister, Ms Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC, as Counsel and Advocate for the Republic of South Africa to the International Court of Justice, delivered that republic’s concluding statement at Thursday’s opening session of The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague proceeding’s opening day:
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — In a case that strikes at the heart of Israel’s national identity, South Africa formally accused the country of committing genocide against Palestinians and pleaded Thursday with the United Nations’ top court to order an immediate halt to Israeli military operations in Gaza.
The United States has characterized South Africa’s case, which seems to me to be very solid, As A Distraction:
U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE ANTONY BLINKEN
"The U.S. believes South Africa's genocide submission against Israel distracts the world from important efforts for peace and security."
The Nelson Mandela Foundation supports this effort by South Africa:
"The Nelson Mandela Foundation extends support to the South African legal team as they appear before the International Court of Justice today. Wishing them strength and success in their pursuit of truth, justice and peace. #CeasefireNow."
One might realize that when Nelson Mandela was rotting in a jail cell for his patriotism, Israel was cooperating with Apartheid South Africa in the development of nuclear weapons, which one might imagine were tentatively to be used by white South Africans to obliterate massive numbers of black Africans in neighboring countries.
Here is Ms Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC’s concluding statement in entirety:
