Twitter has been awash this morning (Alaska time) with reports originating from Russia that the U.S. Army general who is currently posted is as Commander of NATO’s Land Command, Lt. Gen. Roger Cloutier, has been killed or captured in Mariupol.
Earlier today, his Wikipedia entry reflected the report or rumor, but about an hour ago, that entry item was removed.
I picked up the claims at Twitter accounts I monitor to get a wider view of peoples’ opinions on the ongoing war.
Many of the Twitter postings also claim a French rescue mission of two helicopters sent to bail him and others out of the besieged city was destroyed.
Although I doubt the authenticity of this claim, it is remarkable how many people are advancing it on Twitter, along with other claims of Ukrainian and NATO perfidy.
